What is your background? How did you get started in business?

I have a rare disease which makes me unable to have a regular job anymore, so a few years ago I started to study the world of affiliate marketing to be able to work from home. I’ve tried to learn as much as I can about several different aspects of running a business, everything from customer service and support to basic programming and HTML.

Have you had a ‘normal job’ before? How did this impact the formation of your business?

Yes, I started out as a musician, but my disease made me have to change profession when I was about 25. I started writing instead, and my personal blog is one of the most visited in Sweden. I also write articles for newspapers as a freelancer, and do a bit of charity work for Doctors Without Borders when I’m able to.

We believe taking risks and making mistakes, what is one of the biggest mistakes you’ve made as an Entrepreneur, and how were you able to turn this mistake into a positive situation?

We took a big risk launching Hungry For Hits with quite big prizes in surf and not having a massive launch backed up by a few site owners, we were a bit worried that we might disappear into the shadows like a lot of traffic exchange do. At the same time we didn’t want those same people to have a giant advantage as we launched, so we stuck to the plan and it made a lot of regular surfers more successful than what they usually had been before. Happy surfers means happy administrators! Having faith in that what we had to offer was good enough and sticking to the original plan without making too many changes went really well, even though it felt risky at times.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned so far as an entrepreneur?

Your business is nothing without the customers, members, readers or whatever your niche may be. Make sure they feel they are getting value for their money and make sure they are getting all their questions answered so they can fully enjoy whatever you are offering.

What is the number one thing you attribute your business success to?

Having a sense of community has been the one thing that has made Hungry For Hits stand out in comparison to a lot of other similar sites. Greeting new people, being available in chat, getting to know other business owners and people who use our services for other reasons and even making new friends is something I do almost on a daily basis. Hanging out with the members, encouraging chatting and talking to people on whatever level they are has made Hungry For Hits a site with personality.

What is the number one thing you would do differently if you could start over?

I would have learned more programming to be able to do whatever changes I wanted without having to hire someone for it.

What is the number one thing you would do the same if you could start over?

Putting my heart into making Hungry For Hits a great place to advertise and network, and making sure that everyone, even the little people who never advertised anything before, feel like they get something out of using the site.

What is the biggest advice you have for new entrepreneurs?

It doesn’t matter if you use the same script, mods or plugins as another site does, unless you bring something special or unique to it, it will just be another random site eventually, and people will lose interest. Learn what you have to work with in detail, prepare with calculations and studies, be available for your customers and let people know who you are. And no, spending just 10-20 minutes of work with support tickets or other member issues per day is not enough if you want to be successful. If you can’t fix a problem right away, make it up to the member and make sure that they are content with the situation. And finally, if you’re not seeing your business grow, if you are not getting the activity you desired or if members aren’t promoting it much, you have to make changes.

Thousands of aspiring and experienced entrepreneurs will see this post, is there anything else you would like to use this platform to share with our readers? Advice, criticisms, or theories?

Having several similar sites is hard, most of the time you will have some customers moving from one of the sites to the other one, and unless you have sites that are really different you will compete with yourself. I’d say it’s better to do one thing and do it 100%, than to put a little effort here and there. Also, you will get nowhere trying to compete with other site owners. Do your thing as planned, and if you have a good thing going you will be successful.
